Before everyone who reads this explodes in disbelief, my girlfriend has seen Return Of The Jedi in some form. Before we watched the other 2 films, the prequels don't count, she knew one of them had "teddy bears" in it. But a hazy knowledge of Ewoks alone does not count as a seeing the film.
I have also realised with this blog that it actually works against itself any film written about on here in an attempt to increase the chance of the film being seen is actually less likely to be watched. But I'll still do the blog. I should be noted that this week my girlfriend eliminated a future blog post by watchng Ferris Bueller's Day Off, so film points go to her for that one.
Anyway on with this weeks update. Return Of The Jedi.
I'm noticing a trend in this section of the blog that most of these films shouldn't have to be justified. Return Of The Jedi is the conclusion to the Star Wars triology. After the fairly bleak end of Empire Strikes Back everything comes good for the heroic rebel alliance and they beat the evil Empire. The title pretty much sums up the plot.
I think my girlfriend will like the film for several reasons, the biggest one being the Ewoks, which are very cute. And a bit heartbreaking in the bit where one dies and the other cries over it. I've been in tears many a time over that moment. Also good is the lovely reunion of Leia and Han Solo. And all the great action in the film. And there's a hover bike chase.
This next section is a bit more difficult, as my girlfriend has, in a fashion, seen bits of Return Of The Jedi and like I previously said has already watched the first two films. In fact before this blog I'd say the only reason she hasn't seen it is because we haven't had chance to watch it yet. However, now that this blog has been written it will probably not be watched just because of the blog. We'll see.
My favourite quotation from the film is an easy one, the classic "It's A Trap," which can be used at anytime whatsoever, but is particularly effective if used just before someone opens a door. Or if someone has just been caught in a trap. Or if you think that the death star is inactive so you send your entire fleet in to attack and then realise that the death star is active and lots of brave pilots are going to die, and you have been fooled into a trap.
In the interest of balance the film I haven't seen that my girlfriend has for this week is Anastasia.
That's all for this week I'll be back next week with another film that my girlfriend hasn't seen.

Small Soldiers
Over a year ago, in the budding phases of our relationship, I was challenged with buying birthday presents for my girlfriend. Earlier on that very same week she had, without feeling any guilt whatsoever, confessed to never having the seen the film Small Soldiers. Which as far as I'm concerned is a crime. So naturally, upon finding it cheap in Asda, bought it was a birthday present. Now over a year later, I have rescued the unopened, and certainly not watched DVD, of Small Soldiers and introduced it to the loving environment of my own DVD collection. It was this action that made me decide to start a new blog on the side of my other blog that no one reads, in an attempt to force my girlfriend to watch all the classic films she hasn't yet seen.
The plan is fairly simple, for each film I'll list the reasons, I think, why she'll like it and then the reason she hasn't/will not watch it and for good measure my favourite quotation that I will spout at any appropriate moment, mainly to the annoyance of my long suffering girlfriend.
So without any further adieu, Small Soldiers
Justifying Small Soldiers isn't a particularly hard thing to do, basically it's everyones, and I mean everyones fantasy, toy's that actually do what they do on the advert. The toys are in two warring factions and havoc ensues. It's funny when it needs to be, and delivers action perfectly. There's also the brilliant game, Small Soldiers - Squad Commando, which is well worth checking out, having spent hours of my life playing it as a younger person. Also Kirsten Dunst is in the film, and isn't particularly annoying, which is impressive.
The reason my girlfriend hasn't seent this film is a harder one. On many an occasion I've argued the numerous merits of this film, but she still hasn't watched it. She'll crack soon. She probably hasn't watched it because it's a "boys" film and primarily aimed at children. This is obviously nonsense as it's one of the best films of the 90's.
There are many great lines in this film, but none that i quote very often. "Sanctuary!" is a good one but is in itself a cultural reference. I suppose the reference i make most often is the funny way of the saying the Gorgonite's names, like "Slamfist," or "Isaniac".
There are loads of films my girlfriend hasn't seen ut in the interest of balance, I'll mention a film that she has and I haven't, this weeks can be Ice Princess. I am going to try and do one every week. So you can read the next one soon. Until next time, bye.
DISCLAIMER this is just bit of fun. I don't really dislike my girlfriend. We have a happy relationship. This is just a bit of technological blackmail to make her watch some films that she hasn't yet. It should be noted that she has watched a lot of films on my request that she wouldn't have normally seen. Most of them were excellent films.
